Washington Post runs major story on Female Genital Mutilation
Posted by acorcoran on December 31, 2008
This is now a couple of days old, sorry I didn’t get to it sooner. The Washington Post has a graphic story that fills an entire page of the print edition on the (mostly) Islamic practice of Female Genital Mutilation in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Since my time is short this morning, I’ll direct you to Robert Spencer’s discussion of the article at Dhimmiwatch here.
We have written about this barbaric practice because it is creeping into the US with refugees from countries that approve of the mutilation of little girls’ genitals.

Perhaps the word of the barbarism of FGM is getting out. I hope so. No matter whether one is right, left, or center, condemning FGM should be an issue on which all of us can unite.

Thanks, RRW for posting this. I missed it and it is a good article.
Here’s the problem in a nutshell: (from the WaPo article)
“I do this in the name of Allah” and “We don’t know why we do it, but we will never stop because Islam and our elders require it.”
And I didn’t know this about FGM:
“…it (FGM) makes her spiritually clean so that others can eat the meals she prepares. “I would not eat food from the hands of someone who did not have the procedure,”
I had never read this about FGM and I wonder if it is particular to the Iraqi Kurds or is a more widely held belief.
P.S. You’d think with the way all those Hollywood feministas are always going on and on about their “Vagina Monologues” one of them would take up the cause and get the word out about ending this barbarism. I nominate MADONNA – hah-hah.
Oh, I forgot. It’s another CULTURE and we are in NO POSITION to judge another culture. They are just as good as we are. No matter what century they’re in.
