Wahhhh! We want more government money!

Look who is talking—federal refugee resettlement contractors who were apparently expecting a windfall in the big pork bill that went down in flames this past week, that’s who. The so-called Omnibus bill was laden with more money for refugee resettlement. Lamenting that the 80,000 refugees arriving in the US this year would be strapped for cash —what no unemployment payments for them—not one resettlement contractor ever says maybe we shouldn’t bring so many refugees to your town until the economy improves!

WASHINGTON — The Senate’s decision last week to fund the government through a continuing resolution instead of an omnibus appropriations bill could have implications for refugees, eliminating an 18.5-percent increase in funding for refugee resettlement programs that would help refugees from Iraq, Burma, and other troubled regions, to settle in the United States.
Programs for refugee resettlement are strapped for funds, particularly as the number of refugees admitted to the U.S. creeps upward. The United States is authorized to admit up to 80,000 refugees for the fiscal year 2011 — only a small fraction of those seeking aid worldwide.
For refugees who are accepted into the United States, the omnibus spending bill would have allowed for better social services and a stronger safety net for those who are taken from war-torn countries and expected to find work in the U.S. within three months.
“It takes longer to find jobs for refugees,” Bob Carey, vice president of International Rescue Fund, told HuffPost. “
They’re particularly vulnerable to unemployment. A lot of the refugees we’re seeing are coming with medical issues. They’ve been tortured or have injuries, or some haven’t had medical treatment because of the war.”
The omnibus bill could have provided these refugees with unemployment aid, job training, and an emergency housing support fund for those behind on rent or utilities payments.
Look who is crying for money! The International Rescue Committee (not Fund) is a $282 million dollar a year organization. It received $175 million dollars in 2008 from the American taxpayer according to its Form 990 here.
CEO, Charles Rupp made $429,705 in salary and compensation that year. And, they are crying for more of your money. Maybe all their 6-figure-salaried employees could give up a little of their dough and help out the refugees they lobby Congress and the White House to bring to America.
And, by the way, the IRC was the resettlement contractor that brought the refugees to Abilene which I just mentioned this morning, here.

Why resettle the people from Iraq and Afghanistan? They need too stay in their country and rebuild it, Hopefully they will be free people in some respect, It will take years too see that the women in these countries have a say in government and are free from being sold into a marriage. Their laws are not the way we have been taught. Women have no rights. Billions of dollars are spent too help these countries and we have don’t have much say about who is their leaders.
The UN is a joke! The money given too the UN is nothing but money spent for guns too kill our Military.
There is no way that they can be sure the people they bring here are not involved in terriors.

Uh, Nellie? Are you aware that there are female parliament members in Afghanistan? And women in the Iraqi government? Now, I’m not saying these position are equally distributed or have the same power as their male counterparts… there certainly IS a long way to go for women and girls in these countries and many countries around the world. Including developing countries in Latin America (predominantly Christian) and other (Christian) countries in Africa. And even in our own country, where women are paid less on the dollar than men doing the same work.

You are right! I know the Iraq people have come a long way but you would think they would want too stay and rebuild their country.
I am reading a book on Benazir Bhutto. It is about her death in Pakistan. Too bad as she wanted democracy. There are good people in all nationalities but we are in a situation where if we bring in more immigrants now and “no jobs” we are only creating more debt in Welfare for the local and fed governments. We can’t survive on Welfare. I have worked in a food bank and homeless shelter. also a alcohol and drug abuse center. WOW! This will really open your eyes too what is going on in the U.S.A. When we have the 6 generaton Welfare the government programs are not working. When I am subject too a women who have one child and “can’t find a job” I was a single mom with 4 kids, never on Welfare and never filed for unemployment. They don’t get much sympathy from me. I am tough on the drug and alcholics. Tough love! They like me even when I call them on their responsibility. Have you ever been too a Military base housing? The illegals live better!

It’s definitely in America’s interest to resettle refugees, especially those from Afghanistan and Iraq! However, the IRC and Rupp need to be severely audited and they need to do more with less!

Now is not the time too resettle refugees too the U.S.A with the terrors threats and “NO JOBS”. In 1981 my husband was working for a Military plant, he had 25 years in this plant. They were on strike! When he returned too work his job had been given too an immigrant from Germany. He was in WW11, DAV and this didn’t go over very well with him. We talked this over and he retired and it was a good choice!
The Union wouldn’t do one thing too get my husband’s job back. So much for Unions! I don’t like them and I think our country would get along great with out them.
When the Union spends the employees money for political reasons it is fraud!
My son in law, grand son is out of work! both were in construction. Doesn’t look like a job in the near future.
Why don’t these people stay in their country and rebuild it? Our governement is paying a lot of money for American companies too rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan. They hire a lot of local people. I have a friend who has been in Iraq for 3 years at 25,000 a month salary. That is our tax money!
We don’t get any cheap oil from Iraq! We are only losing our Military in death and injuries. Europe is having a lot of problems with the Muslims.

You are right and I see this with the Mexicans in our area. We don’t have any Muslims close,
The government has had people on Welfare for generations. I moved too CA in 68 and at that time the illegals were moving in too the area.
When we have 6 generations of people on Welfare that tells me that the program isn’t working.
When the government brings immigrants into our country and puts them on Welfare and our Military is living in home that are sub-standard as base home.

Saudi Arabia is not taking any chances with these immigrants and illegals being terrors. I am with Saudi Arabia too take a stand with the UN on who should be in their country. I am sure that our government doesn’t have a clue who is in this country.
I look at the mess in AZ and no help from our government. When I realized Obama was suing AZ and not helping them rid the state of illegals and drug lords.
