What gives?—the New York Times exposing problems with multiculturalism twice in two days! First, we have a story about Malmo, Sweden (we’ve written a lot about Malmo on these pages) and how the anti-immigrant tide is rising and then we are also told about how England is struggling with the same problems with the clash of civilizations, here. The NYT says the policy shift in the UK on Muslims is “ominous.” Really? For whom?

Egyptians want to go home, but no government to take care of them
Posted by acorcoran on February 28, 2011
This is one of the dozens of stories about “refugees” in North Africa at the moment. In this case its about Egyptians trapped in Libya or stranded in Tunisia who want to go home to Egypt. But, guess what, there is no functioning government there thanks to American Leftists (friends of Soros) and union “leaders” who helped bring on the glorious Egyptian “democracy” revolution only a few weeks ago.
From the International Business Times:
The overwhelming flow of humanity – many of them Egyptians with no way to get home – is creating a humanitarian crisis, according to aid workers. Tunisian authorities are unable to cope with the sudden huge influx of people.
[....]
More than 20,000 Egyptians are now stranded in Tunisia, a refugee official of the United Nations told the BBC with a desperate need for food, water and shelter.
BBC reported that some Egyptian refugees were chanting: “We want to go home.”
All the people here are demonstrating because they want to go to Egypt,” an Egyptian refugee was quoted as saying. “All countries are sending aircraft to rescue their people – Turkey, Korea, India, Bangladesh – everyone is arriving and leaving except for Egyptians.”
Where is the Egyptian government?
“Where is the Egyptian government? Where is the Egyptian army? Where is the Egyptian ambassador?” one refugee at the border told AFP.
Where indeed?
A reminder to readers, two prominent US immigrant and refugee rights organizations, CASA de Maryland and the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights are both up to their necks in the Egypt mess because of their involvement with the Organizer’s Forum which helped bring on the revolution in the first place. Check out the Organizer’s Forum board, here.

Let Choudary in for all to see what Shariah law teaches…
Posted by acorcoran on February 28, 2011
*See update below*
Word is spreading through blogs and action alerts that the firebrand Muslim cleric, Anjem Choudary,* is coming to demonstrate for Islamic supremacism at the White House later this week. He says he will tell America that the Shariah is coming. Here is a report from the excellent Logan’s Warning blog to bring you up to speed.
As expected, Muslims across the world have started to lock arms in their quest to impose Shariah Law (Islamic Law) on all. For the most part, Muslims in America had confined this call to their barracks…..,errr, I mean Mosques and Islamic conferences. Now, in a brazen display of united force, Muslims calling for the adoption of Shariah in this country plan to march near the White House on March 3rd. The leader of the pack is the U.K.’s Anjem Choudary, a Muslim cleric.
Read on. And, note that Logan has a message for the likes of the revered Republican Grover Norquist (Shariah is compatible with the US Constitution!):
I have heard plenty of “Constitutionalists” stand up for Islam in the name of the 1st Amendment. These misinformed folks believe that Islamic law can co-exist with our Constitutional law. Does it sound like Sharia-loving Muslims care about protecting our Constitution? They only use its provisions against us, and if their movement is not stopped, they will throw the U.S. Constitution into the shredder!
Note that those organizing the pro-Shariah march also have a message at their website for the Far Leftwingers who think they are marching in lock step with Islamists to bring ‘hope and change’ to one big borderless world—-“Communism is dead!”
A counter demonstration is planned for Wednesday by the Alliance of American Patriots.
Two comments that caught my eye
Reader Devlon (at Logan’s Warning) had this to say—bring it on Choudary! (emphasis mine):
I think it’s just what we need. Let these loud, uncouth, untalented thugs march in front of the White House and “demand” that sharia replace the Constitution. Let them be aggressive and threatening. Let them hold up their signs that say ‘Behead those that criticize Islam.” Let them make their ugly faces and let them get violent. Maybe then, finally, Americans will wake up and stop telling themselves silly yarns about all cultures being equally good and equally bad.
And then this! Time to stop Muslim immigration:
And maybe their march in front of the White House will wake us up in a rude enough way that we shut the doors to further Muslim immigration to this country. If that sounds harsh to the libs out there, I would ask them to please point to even one predominately Muslim country where there is not mayhem and bloodshed, and the suffering of women and gays and non-Muslims.
*Sources are telling me that Choudary cannot get into the US, but that doesn’t mean that American Islamists won’t be out in force. I’ll try to keep you posted on the demo and counter-demo as it gets closer.
Update: The Daily Caller has an article on Choudary’s plans but note that he is referred to as a “joke” and a “publicity whore.” He may be both of those things but he also is dead serious and is saying exactly (albeit in inflammatory tones) what Frank Gaffney at the Center for Security Policy is saying with facts in their major report on Shariah in America, here. By making a joke of Choudary it serves to diminish what he is saying and sends everyone back to sleep! Do not go back to sleep!

US Banks not cooperating with Somali money transfers
Posted by acorcoran on February 27, 2011
If only it were so! But, I find this story in a Somali publication hard to believe. These money transfer operations are the backbone of Somali enterprise in the US (you don’t really think those little mom and pop trinket shops and eateries can survive otherwise do you?).
From the Suna Times:
Minnesota (Sunatimes) Somali money transfer companies (Hawala) in the United States of America are complaining that the US banks do not want to cooperate with them.
A year ago, the banks refused to accept money from the companies who help Somalis living in America to transfer their money to Somalia and else where around the world.
The US banks were worried that the huge sums of money deposited by the companies better known as “Hawala” would risk US’ security.
In 2009, some members of the Somali community living in the US were accused of sending money through those companies to Somali insurgent group, Al-shabab militia which the US believes is linked to Al-Qaida network.
Abdiaziz Mohamed, who is the manager of Tawakal Hawala in Ohio region said although the banks do not want to associate with them, they will do all that they can to convince them to accept their deposits.

Shocking graphic shows US population rise from immigration
Posted by acorcoran on February 27, 2011
Check out this website ‘Comprehensive Immigration Reduction’ to see how rapidly US population is increasing from all of our LEGAL and illegal immigration sources. Hat tip: Paul.
My only complaint is that the refugee number is too low. It is not 35,000 but in recent years has been in the 75,000 range. Obama this year asked for 80,000.
Makes you kind of wonder where the Lefty environmentalists are on the immigration issue. Shouldn’t they be concerned about all the houses, cars, schools that will destroy the environment and open space as the population booms? (Oh, that’s right, the environmental leaders like Carl Pope of the Sierra Club are Marxists and working with Van Jones to bring on the Revolution.)
That reminds me, wouldn’t someone please undertake to write some blogs on these other immigration programs—the diversity visa needs attention every day, as does the treaty investor program (food stamp fraud!), and how about someone please follow the student visa scam!

David Frum gets it mostly right
Posted by acorcoran on February 26, 2011
In his National Post opinion piece Frum* paints a dismal picture of what I think everyone can see—the newest refugee “crisis” coming out of the North African/Middle East turmoil. What I was looking for, however, is any understanding that there are one-worlders (within the immigration industry) who see this crisis and chaos as a good time to advance their borderless world concept and will be using the “refugee crisis” to further destabilize European nations and as an excuse to BRING MORE REFUGEES TO THE UNITED STATES and to Frum’s home country of Canada. Islamists as well will see this as an opportunity to increase Muslim numbers in Western countries.
This is not going to be Europe’s burden (cross to bear!) alone!
Here is Frum at the National Post:
The turmoil in Arab North Africa is not only a political crisis: It could soon trigger a global migration crisis.
Already, 5,000 Tunisians have attempted to migrate to Italy since the collapse of the Ben Ali regime. The would-be migrants are being held on the Italian island of Lampedusa, while the Italian government decides what to do.
Italy’s foreign minister, Franco Frattini, has publicly worried that 300,000 Libyans might try to flee to Italy after a collapse of the Gaddafi regime. It is less than 200 miles by sea from the Libyan capital of Tripoli to Lampedusa.
Spain legalized 750,000 illegal immigrants in 2007. Unsurprisingly, that generous amnesty only summoned more illegal immigration.
The Arab and African populations are booming and there are literally millions of young men with nothing to do. (Cheerful read for a Saturday morning, isn’t it.) But, I repeat, it will not be Europe’s problem alone. Keep a watchful eye for the drumbeat to begin—waaahhhh! We need to bring the refugees to North America! To Australia! We have been hearing this cry for decades every time there is upheaval in the world. I guarantee you it is already being discussed in the UN and in the US State Department!
The Arab world -especially the North African Arab world -is in turmoil because of the economic and political failure of Arab -and especially North African -governments.
Increasingly, the people of these societies look to migration as their solution.
Yet their solution is Europe’s problem. Voluntarily and involuntarily, Europe is now receiving 1.7 million immigrants a year -more than the United States. Europe’s immigrants come overwhelmingly from the Middle East and North Africa, and they are overwhelmingly Muslim in religion.
[.....]
These migrants do not usually arrive with the skills necessary to succeed in an advanced economy. They pool at the bottom of the labour force and often turn to crime or political extremism.
Unfortunately both for the immigrants and for the native-born, Europe’s generous welfare states offer the lowskilled an attractive alternative to work.
[.....]
Middle Eastern and North African populations are surging: Egypt is up from 20 million in 1950 to 80 million today. Two-thirds of all Arabs are under age 25. Some 80 million net new jobs are required over the next 15 years just to keep pace with the population explosion.
Read it all. And, get ready!
*Learn more about David Frum here at wikipedia. He has a distinguished career, however, note that most recently he helped organize that ridiculous “No Labels” political group that fizzled the day it was announced.

What’s driving Obama and the radical Left to increase immigration?
Posted by acorcoran on February 25, 2011
They are transforming America—more needy people=a greater demand for stuff (goodies from you, the taxpayer). Immigrants will then reliably vote for Democrats who promise stuff.
I’m asked frequently, why don’t they (the open borders gang) see that America can’t afford all those immigrant workers and social services, it makes no logical sense to bring so many people who end up suffering, they say. It is perfectly logical and it is not about helping the world’s downtrodden, it is all about transforming America as Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies clearly tells us in an opinion piece yesterday, here. (Emphasis mine) Hat tip: Brad.
In 2008, President Obama described his goal as “fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” This is as true for immigration as it is for health care and other issues.
President Obama’s support for what advocates call “comprehensive immigration reform” — amnesty, loose enforcement and increased legal immigration — which he reiterated in his State of the Union address, is not just another item on a laundry list.
In the same way that critics of Obamacare warn that it will lead to irreversible changes in the nature of American politics, the president’s immigration goals — effectively, open borders — would alter the political system itself, leading to inexorable growth in government and consequent constriction of personal liberties.
In short, immigration is the health of the state.
Leftists have been quite open about the politically transformative effects of immigration. Eliseo Medina, vice president of the Service Employees International Union and an honorary chairman of the Democratic Socialists of America, said immigration “will create a governing coalition for the long term, not just for an election cycle.” Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., has publicly made the same point, as has Ruy Teixeira, author of “The Emerging Democratic Majority.”
Krikorian says there are two parts to the strategy:
First, mass immigration — both legal and illegal — serves to import voters who will back statist, big-government politicians and policies. But more deeply and permanently, mass immigration changes American society in ways that make statist solutions more attractive to voters in general, expanding the transformative effect beyond merely immigrant voters to the electorate at large. [Sympathetic Americans look around, see immigrant poverty, and then too demand that government solve it---ed]
Immigrant groups, almost by definition, will lean Democrat.
[.....]
What’s more, immigrants are disproportionately poor, reliant on government services, and “minorities,” and thus it’s simply in their interest to vote for the party of welfare and affirmative action. Calls to cut taxes and shrink government just aren’t relevant to people who don’t pay a lot of taxes and who are dependent on government largesse.
But the electoral preferences of immigrant voters are only part of the story. Perhaps even more important is the fact that immigration — both legal and illegal — creates a political, social and economic environment more favorable to the statist Left.
Krikorian’s concluding message to conservatives:
On immigration, the president and his allies are playing the long game. The Left’s current difficulties will prove merely temporary if mass immigration keeps working its transformative effects.
The necessary response from the Right is clear: Reach out respectfully to legal immigrants already here, but work tirelessly for comprehensive enforcement of immigration laws and reductions in future levels of legal immigration.
Every line in Krikorian’s piece is insightful. Read it all here.
What is this all about?
About ten days ago the Palm Beach Post published an article about the US State Department (through their federal contractors) resettling Muslim Iraqis to Palm Beach County, Florida when there are few jobs, no low-cost housing, and virtually no other Iraqis. It’s my opinion that this is a twofer—import poverty to wealthy Palm Beach County, show the suffering Iraqis with stories like this one, and THEN SALT MUSLIMS INTO COMMUNITIES WHERE FEW LIKELY EXISTED.
Endnote: Smart Harvard-educated Republicans like Grover Norquist know this is happening—Democrat voter rolls increase with the increased importation of poverty and yet he and other supposed conservatives continue to promote open borders. I don’t get it. Kinda makes you wonder which side he is on!

Iraqis bring costly mental problems to Illinois…
Posted by acorcoran on February 25, 2011
….and the mean governor will make their problems worse with budget cuts!
Well, that is basically what this article is about—I’m just saying it more directly. These Lefties are masters at planting sob stories, one after the other, as propaganda for their political goals. As I said the other day, the radical agitators at the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights are scared of being dumped off of the taxpayer gravy train.
So stories like this one pop up everywhere. From Medill Reports (you can read the whining stuff), but below is the pertinent takeaway message from the article:
While refugees in the past typically came from specific areas all at once, today those settling in Illinois come from 62 different countries according to the Illinois Bureau of Refugee and Immigrant Services. This poses new challenges for those aiding refugees as there are many new language and cultural differences to take into account. Additionally, private social service agencies may find themselves financially pressed given deep cuts proposed for refugee assistance programs in Gov. Pat Quinn’s 2012 state budget.
I wonder to the Lefty organizers give this paragraph to a news outlet and then instruct the reporter to build a sob story around that paragraph?

North African refugee “crisis” news round-up
Posted by acorcoran on February 25, 2011
We will be watching for any sign that the US will offer to airlift any to the US, or make noises about taking “refugees” in some sort of emergency fashion.
In the meantime, Europe is sweating—first Tunisia, then Egypt and now Libya.
Here are some recent reports:
*The New York Times reports here on an EU meeting to figure out who is going to pay for all the refugees.
* There are two reports, here and here from Switzerland (not a member of the EU) about the refugee situation. Interestingly there are tens of thousands of Chinese in Libya now trying to get out (oil field workers?).
* Aljazeera on foreigners fleeing and European worries, here.
* CNN says UN warning of mass exodus from Libya, here.
* RT News says Italian island overrun with illegal immigrants, here.
* Somali refugees mistaken for mercenaries in Libya, here.
I’ll add to this list as the news comes in (always looking for any news that the US is going to do something irrational!).

Manchester, NH: Refugee boys attack 12-year-old girl, knock out her teeth….
Posted by acorcoran on February 23, 2011
…..And, it sure looks like the politically correct school officials and other authorities in Manchester, NH want to wash their hands of the case—paralyzed by fear they will be called racists?
Through Vlad Tepes blog we were alerted to this story from “welcoming” New Hampshire where the girl’s mother must have said ‘enough is enough’ and started a blog* about the case, here, when she could not get authorities to act.
I guess we have another ‘diversity is beautiful‘ alert to add to our growing list.
Here is an excerpt from the story:
My 12 year old daughter’s name is Morgan. She attends the sixth grade at McLaughlin Middle school in Manchester, NH. She has always been a well liked girl with lots of friends, and a passion for humanity. She’s known for standing up for those who can’t stand up for themselves giving them a voice and the courage to stand up for themselves.
It came as complete shock when our family received a call from the school nurse stating that Morgan had been involved in a fight and “her mouth is a little screwed up”. Upon arriving at her school it was very disturbing to see her condition. Immediately we knew by the blood gushing and her inability to remember her mothers name or phone numbers, she should have been transported to the ER by ambulance. Instead, she sitting in the nurses office being asked to stop crying. Stop crying about the teeth that had been punched out of her head?
Apparently two weeks prior to my daughter getting attacked at school, she was punched in the face by one of the boys on the bus. Being too scared to tell anyone, my daughter never spoke to myself or our family about this incident only telling her sister what had happened. The bus driver however was well aware of what happened, and reported it a WEEK LATER. Meanwhile she is receiving threats from these boys that they are going to “f**k up her face so she isn’t pretty anyone”.
The arguments between my daughter and these boys started with a couple of the boys asking Morgan to be their girlfriend. When Morgan turned them down, they retaliated by calling her names like “fat ho, lesbian b**ch, c**t, etc…” this goes on for about a month before the first assault on the bus occurs.
Once the principal received notification about the bus incident, he took another week to address it. Not once was I ever notified that my daughter was assaulted on the bus. The principal questioned my daughter and the boys that had been threatening her. The boys were never suspended or removed from school. Shortly after the conversation the students had with the principal, Morgan was brutally attacked. First elbowed in the face, followed by 6 to 7 punches knocking her front teeth out and leaving her with a concussion. It took four teachers to get one of the boys off her.
[.....]
The boys are refugees brought over from Kenya and Ethiopia. It makes me question if we are providing these children with proper coping skills for a healthy transition. Also, is it safe for these students to be held back to due to language barriers leaving such a great age difference between students. [How old are they?--ed]. I can’t imagine the rage these boys must be harvesting inside to attack a girl so brutally. [It's all about the African cultural treatment of women!--ed]
There is a lot more. Please go to Morgan’s mom’s blog and read the whole thing.
I’d like to see the boys’ names. Kenyans are NOT eligible for refugee resettlement (unless you happen to be Obama’s Aunt Zeituni), but there are large refugee camps for Somalis in Kenya. So, if someone gets those names send them to me.
Manchester has been having a boatload of problems with refugees over the years. For new readers, refugees do not magically appear on a city’s doorstep, they are resettled in your cities and towns when local government officials turn a blind-eye (fearful of being called racists) and federal government contractors drop them off. And, I don’t say ‘drop them off’ lightly because that is very often what happens.
In Manchester almost a year ago, the mayor did attempt to raise concerns about the large number of refugees being brought there by an USCRI subcontractor, the International Institute of New Hampshire. By the way, some International Institutes have been closed for mismanagement of their refugee caseloads. I don’t know if Manchester still has the same mayor but maybe its time for someone in local leadership to just say NO! to more refugees.
Looks like the two federal refugee contractors in New Hampshire are the International Institute of New Hampshire and Lutheran Social Services.
I’ll remind readers again that the best place to register your concerns are with your own federal representatives—your US Senators and your Congressman (here). They hold the purse strings and its all about money at the moment and those two agencies will be hamstrung without federal funding.
* The best way to get around the old media is to become a reporter yourself by blogging! Make them do their jobs!
