Minnesota “love and peace” crowd defends women who told court to “go to hell”

Posted by acorcoran on December 8, 2011

Oh, geez.  The political hard left in Minnesota is rallying around the Somali women recently convicted of sending material support to the terror group Al-shabab in Somalia.  I first told you about them here where they dissed our legal system and said infidels would die.

Now, from Fight Back News (LOL! don’t you love it when peace people have publications like Fight Back News) we see that peace and justice activists are organizing to rally around their cause in the months leading up to their sentencing.

Minneapolis, MN – About 100 people gathered for a “Speak Out in Support of the Somali Community” Dec. 3. The organizers were inspired to do the forum after the Oct. 20 conviction of Amina Ali and Hawo Hassan, two Somali American women who raised money for charities assisting Somalia’s poor. The women’s conviction was related to providing “material support to foreign terrorist organizations.” During jury deliberations, supporters of the women made it clear that the situation for people in Somalia was dire and that people required help for basic survival.

Remember readers, these were women who did not say they acted out of naivete’.

In the AP story about their conviction, here, we learned that the government had recorded their phone calls and prosecutors reported this at trial:

Prosecutor Steven Ward contended that Ali and Hassan were in contact with key al-Shabab leaders and getting frequent updates on the fighting. He said their conversations showed they knew al-Shabab was a terror group, sometimes celebrating casualties.

In one of those calls, Ali told others to “forget about the other charities” and focus on “the jihad.” In another, she said, “Let the civilians die.”

Now that they have been convicted, Minnesota hard Left groups, saying the FBI is on a “witch hunt,” are making them a cause celebre’!

Both women were convicted of conspiracy to provide material support for a foreign terrorist organization. In addition, Ali was convicted of 12 counts of providing material support and Hassan was convicted of two counts of lying to FBI agents. Each count of providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization carries a 15-year sentence. On the day of the conviction, there were huge protests in Somalia over the women’s cases.

The women were accused of helping al-Shabab, an Islamist organization that fights to free Somalia from foreign domination.

Participants at the forum were urged to pack the courtroom for the sentencing of Amina Ali and Hawo Hassan. The sentencing is expected to happen in the early spring. Before that, there will be other actions and campaigns around the case.

Why so many Somalis in the US?   That is what people are googling everyday and they end up here at RRW where top posts continue to be this one about how and when we admitted so many Somalis to the US and this one about how come there are so many Somalis in Minneapolis (Minnesota generally).

Hudson Institute: Honor crimes and polygamous marriages on the rise in Great Britain

Posted by acorcoran on December 6, 2011

Author Soeren Kern at the Hudson Institute this week writes about two recent reports that do not bode well for Muslim women in the UK or frankly for the future of women’s rights generally as the Muslim population in Europe (and a demand for Sharia law) increases with the rising immigrant tide.

From Hudson New York:

More than 2,800 so-called honor attacks — punishments for bringing shame on the family — were recorded by British police last year, according to the first-ever national estimate of the problem.

The highest number of honor crimes — which include murder, mutilation, beatings, abductions and acid attacks — was recorded in London, where the problem has doubled to more than five times the national average.

Still, although the statistics provide the best national estimate so far, they do not give the full picture of the levels of honor violence in Britain. The real figure could be five times as high and in any case shows that Muslim parallel societies are now firmly established in Britain, thanks to decades-long multicultural immigration policies in the country.

The data on honor violence in Britain was released on December 3 by the London-based Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organization (IKWRO), a registered charity that provides advice to Muslim women and girls living in the United Kingdom, who are facing forced marriage, honor-based violence, female genital mutilation and domestic abuse.

Polygamous marriages also hurt women and taxpayers!

The data [about honor crimes] comes on the heels of another report which shows that tens of thousands of Muslim immigrants in Britain are practicing bigamy or polygamy to collect bigger social welfare payments from the British state.

The September 24 report shows that the phenomenon of bigamy and polygamy — which is permitted by Islamic Sharia law — is far more widespread in Britain than previously believed, even though it is a crime there, punishable by up to seven years in prison.

The rapid growth in multiple marriages is being fueled by multicultural policies that grant special rights to Muslim immigrants who demand that Sharia law be reflected in British law and the social welfare benefits system.

The report quotes two senior social welfare experts based in Lancashire (one of the most “multicultural” areas in Britain) who estimate that there are now at least 20,000 bigamous or polygamous Muslim unions in England and Wales. This would imply that around 300,000 people are living in polygamous families in Britain if the average size of such a “family” is 15 people.

The multiple marriages are encouraged by recent changes to the British welfare system, which allows Muslim immigrants to have a second, third or fourth wife (or in some cases five or more) treated as a single mother who can get a house and an array of other state payments for herself and her children.

The report shows how Muslim men can take a new spouse from anywhere in the world, father any number of children with her, and have British taxpayers assume responsibility for this family’s upkeep and care.

Although all marriages that take place in the United Kingdom must be monogamous, Muslim immigrants can employ countless evasions to practice polygamy without running afoul of British matrimony laws.

In the US, refugee resettlement workers know full well (and whisper among themselves) that some Muslim refugees are polygamous with the second wives (third?) living nearby and collecting public assistance.  Honor crimes and female genital mutilation are also here already.

Rape wave in Norway by Muslims blamed on Israel!

Posted by acorcoran on December 6, 2011

Say what?

From the Israeli National News Service:

Norway is suffering from an unprecedented wave of rapes that are largely being perpetrated by Muslim immigrants against local women, according to Yehuda Bello, an acclaimed Israeli blogger whose special interests include Norway.

[.....]

Bello notes that Norway is “the most advanced country in the world in granting rights to women.” However, he adds, the “politically correct rot” prevents the rape wave by Muslims from being reported. “They are called ‘non-western,’ ‘dark skinned,’ ‘Middle Eastern’ et cetera.”

After a police report in Oslo said that Muslims were raping Norwegian women out of a religious conviction that this was the proper thing to do, a stormy public debate erupted, reports Bello, and “the government ministers, most of them avowed anti-Semites, claimed that the report and its publication serve Israel and its policy of occupation.”

Meanwhile, Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik has been ruled “insane” which means that he will be quietly put away in a psychiatric institution without the public trial he was looking for.  As for that charge of anti-semitism against Norwegian government officials, remember the kids at the camp were learning  political tactics to support the Palestinians against the Israelis, here.

Jewish resettlement agency being sued for discrimination by former employees

Posted by acorcoran on December 5, 2011

This is not the first time we have written about problems at Jewish Vocational Services (JVS) in Kansas City, MO.  Here is our archive of six previous posts on the complaints going back to 2009.

One of the most interesting facts about this case, for me anyway, is that JVS is a subcontractor of the same federal contractor having problems in Manchester, NH right now.  That would be the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) whose head honcho Lavinia Limon headed the Clinton Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) and its former VP, Eskinder Negash, now runs the Obama ORR.   Seems neither must have a very good management style if their subcontractors keep having problems—like in Bowling Green, KY or Waterbury, CT (and others that I am too lazy to link!)

Here we have the news of the lawsuit by former employees at The Standard (A KENYAN PUBLICATION!):

A Kenyan US based journalist and two other African immigrants have gone to court and sued a Jewish organisation in the US for racial discrimination.

Peter Makori, a resident of Kansas City who originally hails from Kisii in Kenya and Abdi Murasaal and Bakar Abdalla from Somalia have sued Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) of Kansas City for damages claiming they were dismissed from their employment because their boss, of Caucasian origin (white) discriminated against them due to their race, skin colour and national origins.

The three, through their lawyer, Brian Barjenbruch complained in their suit papers filed in the circuit court of Kansas City Missouri, that a white female employee who was herself not punished committed the mistakes that led to their dismissal from work.

They also filed their complaints at the Missouri State Human Rights Commission, the Kansas city human relations department and the Federal Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC).

Makori and Abdallah worked as refugee resettlement case managers at the JVS, while Mursaal was their general manager at the organisation’s Centre for New Americans.

They are seeking millions of shillings [What is that in dollars?-ed] in compensation for unfairly losing their jobs and other inconveniences. They claim in their suit papers the fact that their colleague who is white was never punished despite evidence of impropriety on her job performance showed that they were victims of racial discrimination.

There is a lot more, read it all.

By the way, it’s also USCRI that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops is whining about to Congress that received a couple of a million bucks to take care of trafficking victims—money the Bishops thought should rightfully be theirs.

Ethiopian refugee gets 30 years for sexually assaulting elderly man

Posted by acorcoran on December 5, 2011

That’s the report last week from Minnesota where the convicted man’s attorney tried to get a lesser sentence because he was a poor refugee from troubled Africa.

From the Twin Cities Pioneer Press (Hat tip:  Cliff):

Ahmed Sule was sentenced to nearly 30 years in prison Friday for sexually assaulting a legally blind elderly man in the victim’s Fridley home last year.

Anoka County Judge Tammi Fredrickson handed down the decision after the victim’s daughter told the courtroom how Sule’s actions last September had affected her father and their family.

[.....]

The victim, who was 84 at the time of the attack, was suffering from cancer when Sule broke into his home. Sule, 24, repeatedly told the man he loved him and wanted to kiss him before sexually assaulting him. The elderly man tried to fight off Sule but was weak from radiation and chemotherapy.

[.....]

The man has since died.

[.....]

Brisbois [Sule's attorney] had been hoping the judge would take into account Sule’s background. The refugee from Ethiopia grew up in a constant state of conflict in his native country, Brisbois said.

[.....]

He will be deported after his prison term.

Be sure to read the comments on this troubling story where friends of the victim said they danced in the street at hearing the verdict.

The Ethiopian refugee flow to America keeps flowing

The article doesn’t tell us in what year Sule came to the US, but we have resettled the following numbers of Ethiopians in the last four years (here): 560 (2011), 668 (2010), 321 (2009) and 299 (2008).  For years prior to those go here where we were bringing over 1000 Ethiopians each year.  Why?  I don’t know, but one of the Top Eleven federal refugee contractors* is run by Ethiopians—The Ethiopian Community Development Council.   The present head of the Office of Refugee Resettlement in the Dept. of Health and Human Services is Ethiopian Eskinder Negash, here.  [By the way, I hope to write a post soon on the revolving door between contractors and the federal agencies that dole out the money to the contractors!]

* If you are a new reader, don’t be fooled by the name they call these contractors—voluntary agencies (volags for short)—they are not run by volunteers but by highly paid professionals managing a refugee industrial complex!

Libya: Obama “responsibility to protect” will now be tested (on us?)

Posted by acorcoran on December 5, 2011

Samantha Power and the women around Obama (Susan Rice and Hillary Clinton) we are told convinced Obama to back the ouster of Qadhafi in Libya based on the “new international community’s responsibility to protect.”    I was never quite sure who exactly was being protected from whom.

Here a writer in The Star from Toronto says he is hopeful that Libya will “emerge as a showpiece of the Arab Spring” (really now, like Egypt was supposed to have been?).  In your dreams!

The Star:

The sheer messiness of the moment renders premature any declarations of mission accomplished. What Canada joined — a new kind of war framed on the emerging ideal of the international community’s “responsibility to protect” — has given rise to a new kind of aftermath.

Libya is altogether different today than Iraq in 2003, or Afghanistan in late 2001. Uglier, in some ways, because of the score-settling…

So who is the target of the score-settling by Arab Islamist militias?   Dark-skinned people, that’s who.

Nowhere did the revolution’s ugly aftermath present itself as viscerally as at a Tawerga refugee encampment near Tripoli Airport, where close to 2,000 darker-skinned Libyans are living in fear of continued score-settling. Many acknowledge they fought with Gadhafi forces. But many did not. And unlike lighter-skinned Libyans who allied with the ousted regime, the Tawerga refugees have been subjected to near-blanket reprisals — most recently, at this camp, a night raid in early November involving 60 carloads of fighters from the hornet’s nest of anger that is Misurata, Tawerga’s neighbouring city.

This is one of nine Tawerga camps…

Watch for it!   The ‘responsibility to protect’ means we go to war and create a whole new bunch of refugees that need to be resettled in the West!

Don’t make Omar Jamal the poster boy for the anti-CAIR crowd!

Posted by acorcoran on December 5, 2011

You know I’ve been out of the loop since mid-October or so, so I didn’t know about all this business about CAIR going after Somalis Abdi Bihi and Omar Jamal in Minneapolis until I saw this post by Marisol at Jihad Watch yesterday that begins:

CAIR’s Minnesota chapter led a personal attack on the credibility of Omar Jamal and Abdi Bihi in connection with their planned presence at a conference whose literature described al-Shabaab as an “Islamic extremist terrorism organization,” to which CAIR took exception.

There are at least two noteworthy aspects to this story: First, the threats are a reprise of the old chestnut “Say Islam is a Religion of Peace, or we’ll kill you.” The second is that CAIR is caught in its own game, for as hard as it has worked to cast all criticism as incitement to a violent “backlash,” at least where Islamic teachings and advocacy groups are concerned. How about their intense criticism of Omar Jamal and Abdi Bihi? If CAIR Minnesota is to hold itself to the standards it imposes on others, it would have to apologize, shut up, pay up, and disband.

Then again, claiming victim status tends to require a certain ideological pedigree, and the right connections. “FBI Investigating Facebook Death Threats on Somali Advocate,” by Tom Lyden for Fox 9 News, December 2 (thanks to The Religion of Peace)….

Seems that Jamal now claims he is getting death threats on his facebook page.   As we have noted here at RRW (innumerable times since 2007 when I noted he defended a Somali rapist caught in the act and on camera), Jamal is a publicity hound and possibly more than that.  I call him the Somali Jesse Jackson (Frontpage Magazine writers called him the Al Sharpton of the Somali community) and he is at the center of anything to do with Somalis including driving media attention away from the Somali who died with cyanide (enough to kill hundreds) in his hotel room in advance of the 2008 Democratic Convention, here.   At that time we learned that Jamal was here illegally and had been convicted of immigration fraud in 2003 in Tennessee.  He was never deported.

Readers:  Search RRW for ‘Omar Jamal’ and you will see what I mean.

Abdi Bihi, on the other hand, seems to be the real deal and should be encouraged.   Here is one of many posts on Bihi  at RRW.  At one point I suspected that Jamal had only pretended to be on Bihi’s side to get more information to pass along—to someone.   Facebook threats from Al-Shabaab would be a very handy way to solidify one’s cover, or simply to get media attention.

Salt Lake Tribune article gives insight into how refugee teens are doing when dumped into an American high school

Posted by acorcoran on December 4, 2011

This is a long article but worth reading if you are interested in what happens to teenage refugees who arrive in the US with no English and are expected to cope in a big city high school.  Imagine sitting in a math class for months and not even understanding what is being said, and no one follows up to help you figure out how to get lunch, follow a changing class schedule or open your locker.  Where are their resettlement case workers?  No wonder some kids quit and turn to crime.

And, the American fetish for political correctness doesn’t help either!

Below are just a few short paragraphs to consider from this Salt Lake Tribune piece (emphasis mine):

Granite is the only district in Utah to try — and then close — a newcomer academy for newly arrived refugees and immigrants over concerns the district would be accused of segregation. But it’s a strategy that’s still being urged by advocates here. In October, 100 service providers and educators held a meeting called by the Utah Office of Refugee Services to brainstorm ways to help refugee youths toward promising futures and careers. A newcomer academy was a common goal. Rising problems with drugs and gang violence, particularly among refugees in the 18-21 age group, has prompted the office to redouble its efforts with youth.

Brown, the refugee services director, says he has attended four funerals for young refugee men in the past two years due to violence or drugs.

“We’re determined to do something about it,” Brown says. “There’s no single answer, but I think if we can put a lot of different things together, then we do have a real chance.”

Part of it is helping students succeed academically, he says. Too often, youths become frustrated when they cannot compete with their peers in school. They find other ways to stand out.

But, of course, the overarching questions for me, are:  Can taxpayers afford what needs to be done, and are we even doing the best thing for some “refugees” by yanking them out of their own cultures?  And, I am sure there are some readers who are asking why we are doing any of this when we have American troubled kids aplenty.

Union Leader: Manchester mayor needs help from NH Congressional delegation for moratorium

Posted by acorcoran on December 4, 2011

Your tax dollars!

That is right—that is exactly where the mayor and citizens of Manchester and New Hampshire generally need to go to get a moratorium on refugee resettlement.  And, you gotta pound them!  And in turn, they need to pound the US State Department.  Here they are (where the pounding begins!).

And, it wouldn’t hurt either to get the Republican Presidential candidates on record on this as well!  This is truly a states rights issue if there ever was one.  Tennessee recognized that when its legislature passed (and the governor signed) its ‘Refugee Absorptive Capacity Act‘ last May.

Here is the whole Union Leader editorial from yesterday (they don’t keep things on-line long at the paper, I don’t want this to disappear).   Mayor Gatsas wants to know where the money is going!

Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas is making some headway in his effort to hold the refugee-charitable-complex accountable to the taxpayers. He could make more if he got additional help from New Hampshire’s top elected officials.

At Gatsas’ request, the governor and Executive Council voted to table for two weeks four federal contracts to charities that resettle and provide services to refugees in New Hampshire. The charities are the International Institute of New England and Lutheran Social Services. The tabling was done to give Gatsas more time to find out from the charities and from federal officials how the money is being spent.

Gatsas wants to know this because refugees are imposing a burden on city services, and the mayor has concluded that the city cannot afford to accept the hundreds of new refugees-in-need of services the International Institute and Washington plan to bring to Manchester. Though he has explained this to the institute and the federal government, which work together to move refugees here from overseas, they refuse to give the city a breather by settling refugees elsewhere for a while.

The council’s move buys Gatsas a few weeks, which is not a lot of time, considering that this continual influx of poor people who need public aid has been a problem in the city for more than a decade. It would help if the state’s congressional delegation would make a dedicated — and public — effort to help Gatsas solve this problem.

It’s not anti-immigrant, anti-refugee or anti-charity to back the mayor’s call for a temporary stay on refugee resettlement in the city. It’s pro-taxpayer. No one is asking that the city be off-limits to people from other countries who need a new start. All Gatsas wants is some time for the city to make sure that those who are already here can support themselves before the next group arrives.

Many other city leaders (not necessarily the elected ones who seem too chicken generally) have asked for the same right, but no one so doggedly as Gatsas.

New readers:  Type ‘Manchester’ into our search function for several years of background on the problems there.

Immigrants largest group in Sweden living in poverty

Posted by acorcoran on December 4, 2011

67% of foreign-born residents of Sweden are receiving social benefits according to The Local:

Two thirds of the people in Sweden relying long term on social benefits have a foreign background, while child poverty in the same group is becoming more and more serious, according to new reports.

”It is a real problem that poverty in Sweden has taken on an ethnic dimension,” said Björn Halleröd, sociology professor at Gothenburg university, to dail Dagens Nyheter (DN).

The report published in the paper revealed that 67 percent of those on long term benefits were born overseas, with unemployment being the main cause.

Using statistics from 2010, of the 117, 000 people on long term benefits, (defined in this case as over 10 months), 78,000 were from foreign countries.

Meanwhile the charity Save the Children has also flagged the problem of child poverty in Sweden.

In a recent survey carried out by the organisation, child poverty is markedly over-represented among those from a foreign background whose parents are unemployed.

I wonder what percentage it is in the US.  Does anyone know?

We’ve written a lot about Sweden’s immigration crisis, use our search function for more.  Just type in ‘Sweden.’
