Idaho newspaper: NO worries about Syrian refugees coming to Twin Falls; just paranoia

Posted by Ann Corcoran on May 15, 2015

All that news recently about Idaho being a hot spot for refugee resettlement must have stirred the pot there and thus the Idaho Press-Tribune editorial board apparently decided it was their duty to tamp it down before it got out of control.

We learned recently that resettlement contractors have plans to resettle Syrians in Magic Valley.  And, then World Net Daily posted a lengthy article on how Idaho is welcoming Muslim refugees.

Opinion Editor Phil Bridges: You are all just paranoid, no beheadings happening in Idaho. https://www.linkedin.com/pub/phil-bridges/77/bab/7a4

Interestingly the paper published a poll and asked readers to vote.   Here is the question:

How concerned are you about Syrian refugees being brought to Twin Falls?

Over 53% of respondents so far had voted that they are “very” concerned.

Opinion editor Phil Bridges says this.  Notice that he blames talk radio and conservatives for being paranoid.  He even mentions unreasonable fears about “no go zones” and beheadings.  He obviously has no clue what ‘civilization jihad’ is.

If you listen to much local talk radio, you’ve probably noticed that some vocal people of a decidedly conservative stripe are very concerned that a few hundred refugees, some of them Syrian, are going to be brought to Twin Falls.

[….]

On balance, we believe there are more reasons to support these refugees than there are to oppose. But reasonable minds can disagree. Just make sure that, if you’re in opposition, your arguments are based in logic, not unreasonable paranoia.

— Phil Bridges

Subsequently the paper dismissed a reader who reported that the FBI testified to Congress that it could not screen Syrians for security.

See our complete archive on Idaho.  Be sure to see posts on the Uzbek refugee terrorist arrested there.

Wilson-Fish!

Idaho is one of those states operating as a Wilson-Fish state. Unlike other states where the resettlement contractors and the federal government call all the shots and the state government has no say on how the program is run, Idaho reserved a small role for itself. In Idaho it looks like the state government will be in charge of enrolling refugees into its state Medicaid program or disbursing the limited 8 month subsidy for refugees that don’t qualify.

The refugee contractors like to tell the public and elected officials that the refugee program is 100% funded by the federal government. In reality, and as stated explicitly by ORR and the GAO, the costs of the federal refugee resettlement program have been shifted to state and local governments because the federal government has chosen not to appropriate enough money to pay for its program.

Maybe the Idaho Press-Tribune should look into that rather than castigate its readers (more than half of them) for being paranoid!

    Refugee Resettlement Watch Readers:

FYI: Here is a cut/paste copy (my personal information redacted) of the correspondence I had yesterday with Mr. Bridges in reference to his May 13, 2015 article “Some fears about refugees aren’t valid.”

As Opinion Editor, in a position to influence, I urge you to read Ann Corcoran’s recently published book “Refugee Resettlement and the Hijra to America.” Then you will begin to understand the reality of the federal “seeding” of our own Idaho communities! Yours included…

    Mr. Bridges,

I choose to not have a facebook account and am not able to post my comments in response to your online article directly to your readers.
In your position as the Opinion Editor,  I request that you publish my following comments to your readers.

RE: Your May 13, 2015 article: “Some fears about refugees aren’t valid”
Mr. Bridges, it is more than obvious that you are wholly ignorant about Islam. I don’t say this as a put-down, you just need knowledge.
Among those who study and understand Islamic doctrine you are considered an apologist…one who is aiding and abetting the ‘seeding’ of Idaho with Muslims – followers of a totalitarian ideology that has declared war on the West.
You wrote in the close of your article that, “Just make sure that, if you’re in opposition, your arguments are based in logic, not unreasonable paranoia.” Well, Mr. Bridges, I am very much in opposition and it is based on an understanding of the core theological texts of Islam – the Koran, Sira, and Hadith (in other words, directly from Allah and the Prophet Muhammad). I challenge you to refute my sources!
Therefore, I suggest that you educate yourself about the true nature of Islam and then write a rebuttal of your own article based on the 1400 year history of Islam and the core Islamic texts…not ignorance!
    Your readers deserve better…

Sir, are you able to expand your vision to the rest of the country? Your little part of Idaho is just that, a little part of the entire country that is being embedded with inadequately screened aliens by the thousands with the express purpose of depleting public funds, creating an even greater chasm among the American people and allowing those who would see this country destroyed filter in unnoticed.

It amazes me, that as a newsman, you choose to only believe those facts that you agree with. Open your eyes and your mind, sir, and you, too, will be able to see that there is nothing honest, open or well meaning for the American people being presented or implemented by this administration.

As an opener, will please supply proof to me that Barry Soetoro was born in Hawaii or as both, his grandmother and his wife have stated, that he was born in Kenya and that the 10 year residency requirement by his mother in the United States was in effect to make him an American National. Also, if you would, prove to me that it is not true that when a person is given the name ‘Hussein’ he must be born a Muslim. Will you please provide proof that his name was legally changed to the one he is currently using. And, lastly, would you explain to me why, according to Mr. Soetoro, himself, that his parents met after his birth. If you can show me proof or explain to my satisfaction the ‘truth’ about my concerns, well, maybe I will change my mind about Mr. Soetoro’s legitimacy as president of this great land and, perhaps, I’ll take a look at all the other inconsistencies concerning him and change my mind about the course he has plotted for the United States.
