Great map and summary of state/city positions on Syrian resettlement

Posted by Ann Corcoran on November 21, 2015

In one short week, everything has changed in the political landscape around the UN/US State Department Refugee Admissions Program, so much so that I’ve lost track!  Here is a good US map and description (as of Thursday, the 19th).  I know 48 hours is a long time ago considering how fast things are moving, so send a comment to this post if your state has since changed its position, or if you have anything new to add.

From Citylab (hat tip: Jim):

map with states and mayors

Go here for more.  If you live in one of the green states, you need to let your governors know how you feel!

Roanoke!

Check our archives on that Virginia city, they have had their share of problems with refugees over the years.  See especially the stories about the refugees (sent to prison in 2009) for planning to kidnap for ransom some prominent women in the town.

Come on mayors!  We need some of you who have complained in the past to step forward now!

Ann, great map, thanks. I just want to make you aware of a group in Oregon that is having some measurable success in a very blue state. Apparently Oregon is blue in Portland and Eugene and that’s about it. ‘Oregonians for Immigration Reform’, oregonir.org. Found them on vdare: http://www.vdare.com/articles/after-driver-card-victory-oregon-immigration-patriots-aim-for-e-verify-and-official-english.

If your Mayor has decided to welcome migrants, what should you do to stop him?

You are going to have to pull together like-minded people and make a lot of political noise. No guarantee it will work, but you are sunk if you don’t even try. Contact Jim Simpson at one.wonders2@verizon.net and find out about Florida pockets of resistance.

I may have missed some previous information because, like you, am overwhelmed with stuff to read.  But, hoping for answer to: How much power or even influence results from the decision of mayors not wanting refugees? Thanks for your work. Patsy OdomWilmington, NC

Virtually no power legally speaking, but could have much power if refugees are clearly unwelcome to mayor and a vocal segment of community. Will take both, until Congress has the will to change the law and give some rights back to states and local communities.

Dear Ann, I suppose conversely it begs the question that if Mayors have nill legal power regarding barring refugees then how is it that our Federal Agencies honor cities claiming ‘Sanctuary’ Status. So, yesterday former Chief of Staff for Obama; now Mayor of Chicago declared Chicago will be a ‘Sanctuary’ City. No will ‘touch his refugees’. So let’s understand this Fellow Americans and @RahmEmmanuel If a Obama method vetted Syrian ‘refugee’ and others overtime amass into a unit size military formation because of your ‘Sanctuary City’ BS game and the activates and decimates Navy Pier on a Memorial Day weekend, You will make financial reparations from your personal accounts and resign AND all 50 alderman too! Its not a question We need to document every declaration you make now since you tipped the scale to Political Hack from American Patriot.
