Jobs Americans won’t do? Making Chicago cheesecake

Posted by Ann Corcoran on March 19, 2016

The new UN High Commissioner for Refugees (after visiting Senator John McCain in Washington and signing an agreement to get more money from US taxpayers) visited Eli’s Cheesecake Company in Chicago.

McCain and Grandi

Arizona Senator John McCain warmly greets new UN High Commissioner for Refugees as Grandi comes to DC for his annual dip into the US Treasury. Grandi is ‘head hunter’ for American big business. https://refugeeresettlementwatch.wordpress.com/2016/03/15/united-nations-and-us-state-department-have-close-working-relationship-when-deciding-who-comes-to-america/

We learn that a federal refugee contractor lines up jobs for refugees with Eli’s!

Contractor RefugeeOne took in $2.1 million from taxpayers in 2014 to act as an employment service for refugees.  It brags that it brought 16,000 refugees to Chicago since 1982!

What! no Americans willing to make cheesecake? Or, is there some special tax incentive for Eli’s to hire foreign labor?

The UN trumpets the news here:

CHICAGO, United States, March 18 (UNHCR) – During a week-long visit to the United States, the head of the United Nations refugee agency welcomed Washington’s longstanding commitment to resettling more refugees than any other country and emphasized that managing the refugee crisis is a global responsibility.

Speaking on a visit to Chicago, where he met with refugees, US lawmakers and resettlement agencies, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said: “Resettlement addresses the needs of the most vulnerable and is the safest way to move people from one country to another. Refugees flee terror, they don’t bring terror to countries. Their arrival is very carefully vetted, so there should be no fear.”

[….]

While in the Midwestern city, Grandi visited RefugeeOne, a Chicago area non-profit that works with refugees fleeing war, persecution and terror, helping them to build new lives of safety, dignity and self-reliance.

Marc_Schulman

Eli’s CEO Marc Schulman gets cheap immigrant labor and bakes cakes for Obama! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eli%27s_Cheesecake

Finding employment is a major step for a refugee to become self-reliant and one of the businesses that RefugeeOne has long partnered with is Eli’s Cheesecake Company, which has been employing refugees for over 25 years.

[….]

“It takes UNHCR to protect us, RefugeeOne to place us in jobs and people like Marc to help us become productive,” he added, referring to the President of Eli’s Cheesecake Company.

RefugeeOne is a subcontractor of three BIG contracting agencies of the US State Department:  Church World Service, Episcopal Migration Ministries, and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service.

So, no low income Americans want the jobs? Or, it just isn’t cool enough for these Christian charities to help Americans first?

See Leo Hohmann at WND about African Americans being hammered by competition with immigrant labor, here.

Really? So WHO is it RAPING all the Women in Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and ALL of the idiotic countries that opened the floodgates to welcome these half-wits who treat women like toys? Who are the ones setting more than 200 cars on fire on one day in France? Who are the ones in the UK who forced more than 1000 teenage WHITE British girls into prostitution? And WHO The HELL are you to make that brash, stupid, pedantic statement, asshole? OUR FBI AND DHS have issued statements that they CANNOT “vet” these muslim rats. CAN NOT! Understand “CAN NOT,” Jerkoff?

I found this difficult to understand. What is your point? That the refugee organizations have subcontractors? That either/both work to place refugees in jobs? That the UN complimented the refugee organization on its work? What?

I am for NO MORE REFUGEES, NO MORE ILLEGALS, CLOSE THE BORDER, BUILD A WALL (Mexico AND Canada). I can’t forward this emil to friends without knowing what you are trying to say.

    Thanks.

You’ve given me something to think about. Mostly I do simply tell people what is happening, give the facts and then let people decide if the facts bother them. Maybe I should do more to succinctly tell people what they are to conclude? Part of the problem is that I have been doing this for so long and many readers have been here for years, that the facts are sufficient to tick me and other people off.

      1) The UN is picking our refugees and I find that objectionable (esp. as we pay most of the budget of the UNHCR)

      2) I am sure if the employer paid a higher wage he would get American workers, but so many esp. in the food industry are now dependent on immigrant cheap labor (subsidized by the US taxpayer) that they don’t have to pay decent wages.

      3) The contractors and subcontractors are paid largely with taxpayer money to bring these industries their laborers (I find that objectionable, do you?).

Is that enough to start with?

Of course “Eli’s” receives subsidies from Federal and State governments for “training” the “refugees” which means the cheesecake maestro pays little or nothing for labour.

“The Refugee Resettlement Program is a federally funded program that provides English Language Instruction, employment services, health screening, social services, medical and cash assistance to refugees. Services are coordinated with the private sector, which provides job development and placement and specialized training opportunities, as well as support service activities sponsored by religious and civic organizations and a consortium of refugee voluntary agencies. ”

Why can’t we “feel” the replacement of our native born population……until it is too late?

(The government has thought of that…..and continues to spread the “refugees” evenly around the country, to avoid panic by the electorate)

      It’s the law!

8 U.S. Code § 1522 – Authorization for programs for domestic resettlement of and assistance to refugees

      (i)
Insure that a refugee is not initially placed or resettled in an area highly impacted (as determined under regulations prescribed by the Director after consultation with such agencies and governments) by the presence of refugees or comparable populations unless the refugee has a spouse, parent, sibling, son, or daughter residing in that area,

Ann, when I talk to people about the hit that American citizens are taking by big companies hiring immigrants, both legal and illegal, they always come back with the statement that the American citizens do not want to work, have a poor work ethic, are not dependable, etc. My guess is that this might well be the case because we have paid people to not work, making it an option, with no stigma. In the past, it was terrible to be on welfare or unemployment. Remember the movie, Cinderella Man? He went back to the government office and paid back the welfare money when he could finally earn enough money to feed his family. That was during the Depression. My fear is that the government has done such a good job of destroying the working class family by introducing welfare that insisted that the man not be in the household so that we now have a deeply embedded culture of single parent families, drifting children, no concept of a work ethic, and the result is employers using that as an excuse to not hire Americans, but to go for hard working foreigners. Remember that the employers have tax benefits involved in hiring foreigners. Also, the foreigners cannot argue with the employer because if they lose their job, then they must go home if they are here on the H1B or H2B visas. If they are illegal, they have no recourse. This makes for a diligent, compliant workforce. The employer doesn’t have to pay higher wages, so the taxpayer picks up the additional social costs due to low paying jobs. The schools have to educate in many languages, the hospital ER takes care of the sick, and the local community suffers the double hit of paying unemployment/welfare to their own citizens and all the social costs associated with reducing people to a dependent class. The employer pockets the extra earnings. We can thank our elites in DC for the many bad decisions that have led to this disaster that has taken several generations to reach it current epic proportions. A final blow is that the lack of worth that comes with being a non-working dependent class leads to additional social problems. My hypothesis is that the current heroin epidemic that the government is trying to stem can be linked back to the broken family and jobless lifestyle of our formerly working class citizens. I know that heroin is ravaging children from all classes, but it is particularly bad on the people that have no hope and see no way out.

There will be a big rally in Evanston, IL (a northern Chicago suburb) on Sunday, March 20, 2016 to “stand against anti-Muslim bigotry.” The list of participants is shocking (CAIR, YMCA, North Suburban Teacher’s Union, many churches, etc.)
    http://www.evanstonroundtable.com/main.asp?Search=1&ArticleID=11744&SectionID=15&SubSectionID=26&S=1
Evanston has seen a huge influx of refugee children in school districts 65 and 202 and the placement of refugee families into apartment buildings (some very nice…I wonder who is paying the rent). Evanston is home of liberal Northwestern University. There are also some “sanctuary” churches in Evanston, like Lake Street Church, that offer haven to “undocumented immigrants.”

The universities are increasingly where the refugee contractors are finding their warm bodies. If I could do it again, I would discourage my kids from going to college! Get a trade and skip the leftist indoctrination!

        Agreed!
Northwestern University will be holding a summer institute in August 2016 entitled “Refugee Protection and the Rights and Process of Resettlement” sponsored by Buffett Institute’s Center for Forced Migration Studies. Northwestern also held a panel in November 2015 on the U.S. refugee resettlement program that included T. Alexander Aleinikoff, UN Deputy High Commissoner for Refugees. This event launched Center for Forced Migration Studies (mentioned above).
Something is going on in Evanston: The major sponsored a Thanksgiving dinner for Syrian efugees in November; refugees are being located in Evanston apartments; the school districts now have substantial refugee students; Northwestern U. is holding a summer institute; and there is a rally today with people going door to door afterwards trying to get businesses and residents to post signs saying “Welcome Refugees.”
I feel like the community is being “prepped” for refugee resettlement. What do you think, Anne? Is this how things generally go?

They never used to have to do so much ‘propagandizing.’ Until the recent citizen backlash going on around the country, the State Dept. and their contractors quietly and secretly resettled refugees and no one said anything until it was too late—when schools were costing the taxpayers more, and Americans couldn’t get the govt. subsidized housing etc. But, now, with the subject of refugees on so many front pages (and not in a good way), I guess they have taken to prepping the community in advance. Have you looked up data on Evanston yet?
