Overloaded Buffalo, NY running out of housing for refugees; bring in prefabs?

Posted by Ann Corcoran on September 8, 2016

Update September 9th: Be sure to see Daniel Greenfield at Frontpage magazine on ‘The Invasion of Buffalo’ here.

So what else is new.  We told you here just the other day that Missoula, MT, which is getting its first refugees, can’t even find housing for the first arrivals.

Obama’s resettlement contractors are plowing ahead nevertheless trying to hit the 85,000 mark for this fiscal year (see here).  I wonder does the US State Department give them a pass on their contracts which require providing a properly-sized house or apartment so they can get those bodies in here before the bell tolls midnight on Sept. 30th?

And, what makes them think they will have housing for 200,000 next year when they can’t find it for 85,000 this year? (If your town is gleefully building low income housing, be ready for refugees!)

Buffalo has been a long-established refugee site but gee, not enough affordable housing so now some are suggesting bringing in prefabricated housing—can you say refugee camp!

From WIVB Buffalo:

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- The number of refugees coming to Buffalo continues to grow. In 2016, more than 1,000 refugees have been resettled in the Queen City, according to city officials.

With 20,000 refugees (most are on food stamps) in the city of Buffalo, it is no surprise that food stamp fraud has developed as a subsidiary industry and is rampant as we saw in this recent story. These women are angry that their Muslim husband and father was arrested for allegedly scamming you out of $2 million. Diversity is so beautiful! https://refugeeresettlementwatch.wordpress.com/2016/09/02/buffalony-another-food-stamp-fraud-bust-flipping-the-bird-to-america/

The growth has rejuvenated the West Side but now resettlement agencies are struggling to find housing.

“If I had 10 more multi family income properties in this neighborhood, I’d fill every one of them,” said Michael Maywalt, owner of Maywalt Realty. “The demand is very, very strong for additional refugee families to come and be with folks from their own countries.”

[….]

“In this neighborhood there’s a high concentration of Iraqi families, Burma, Nepal and more recently from Afghanistan and Syria,” said Maywalt.

He said his company is starting to look outside of Blackrock to expand, as they work to accommodate the growing number of refugees coming to Buffalo.

City officials told News 4 there are now about 20,000 refugees living in the city.

“We need more good quality housing stock and it’s not necessarily available for an affordable price in the locations that we’re looking,” said Denise Beehag, Director of Refugee Resettlement for International Institute. [This is another USCRI subcontractorLavinia Limon—ed]

The US State Department allots $2025 per head (per refugee) and here we see that USCRI keeps as much as $1100 of it for their office overhead and staff salaries. (The contractors get other money from HHS.)

Beehag said after administrative costs are taken out only about $925- $1,125 is actually available for them to use towards rent, the security deposit, furniture, clothing and other necessities.

[….]

Ozay [a local college professor] says there could be an opportunity for developers to work with resettlement agencies to apply for state or preservation grants to help create affordable housing.

Another idea they came up with was bringing in prefabricated houses.

“There’s actually a larger sort of affordable housing need in the city and we thought this could be a tool to facilitate this need as well,” said Ozay.

Today’s edition of Front Page magazine has a great article on “The Invasion of Buffalo” by Daniel Greenfield. I don’t doubt that he gets a lot of info from Ann. Still a great article and very much needed as is all the information we share.

    Ann,

I have clearly enlightened others about the Refugee Resettlment, thanks to your posts I forward. In regards to housing, my sister noticed some apartments being built in a total retail area (tucked way back in the corner out of sight, but near a “Stay America” and also near the Islamic Center that most people have no idea even exists in this bubble of a town/ Yorba Linda CA where I lived 8th grade through College. These apartments are real shady, as there is no leasing office (Not even a trailer) and the website basically states it’s done through Emails. My opinion is that they already have Refugees ready to move in there when they’re completed. This is near a Costco/Home Depot/Best Buy etc.

Here is the website from the banner: http://nationalcore.org/property-details/oakcrest-terrace/

I find it very interesting that it’s all so elusive.

Thanks for all you do to educate all of us about what is going on,

    Deidra Holland

By the way, I am living with my sister here in Yorba Linda. The Muslims have caused this temporary separation from my husband, as CT was a traumatizing experience. If I’m going to live in a corrupt state, I’d rather be back in CA where the sun shines and I can be near my children.

So there you have it- importing these third world savages to destroy our country has now become Big Business for landlords and other entrepreneurs. I have nothing against the Capitalist system, but this scam has nothing to do with free enterprise and everything to do with the most obscene and crooked political maneuverings that have ever been concocted.

As Ann points out time and time again, our taxpayer dollars are being used against us, to destroy our neighborhoods and to enrich the thugs who are ruling this country. And that includes those at the local level too. From top to bottom the system is rigged against decent, hard working, tax slaves who built our once great cities like Buffalo.

In New York’s affluent suburb of Westchester, we have had sanctuary cities long before anyone knew what they were. If you look around- Peekskill, Poughkeepsie, Newburgh (Murder Capital of NY) are good examples. The biggest investments being made in the downtown areas are always by various Big Government agencies. Example- a sizable health center in Northern Westchester where millions have been spent to expand a Medicaid/ Medicare mill. Interestingly enough, all the money spent is going to make the place bigger and bring in more customers. Virtually no money is being spent on actual equipment or supplies. If you go there, you get to see a doctor or a dentist and Medicaid/ Medicare gets an outrageous bill for the visit. God forbid there’s an actual trauma because this health center can’t handle it, even if you need stitches. They tell you to call 911. I can tell you that at least 90% of the “clients” are non English speaking and come from all over the Hudson Valley. The only good thing I will say is that most of these Latino immigrants are Christian or Catholic which is more than I can say for Buffalo, etc.

If it wasn’t for Ann, all of this priceless information would be unknown. We need all the help and knowledge we can get. The Left Dems control virtually everything- our schools, the media, our government. I watched the first election forum last night and saw the way Matt Lauer treated Crooked Hillary who we now find out was wearing some kind of ear piece. He pretended to ask her some hard questions, no doubt carefully staged, then when Trump came on, all he did was one vicious personal attack after another. Luckily, Trump is too strong, smart and energetic for them. Folks, he is truly our only hope. If Crooked Hillary gets elected, our neighborhoods will be unrecognizable and unlivable.

If they brought in these so called refugees without ever spending a dime of someone else’s money………..there wouldn’t be ONE single refugee in our Country. Think about that.

LOL! And, that is why a reform of the program requires private sponsorship for say up to two years. Cut these middle men right out! And, let them put their private funds where their mouth is!

  9. Yes, Ann, we need the USG to provide the list of contracted ‘deliverables’ from the contract and key off those. No deliverable = No payment from USG. That’s the way procurement and acquisition works.
