A half a million girls in immigrant/refugee households in US at risk for genital mutilation

Posted by Ann Corcoran on February 6, 2015

The number has jumped dramatically as Muslim refugees have entered the US from Somalia, Ethiopia and to a lesser degree Egypt.  The horrific practice has been illegal in the US for nearly 20 years!

This map is incredible since it almost state-for-state matches the highest refugee resettlement states in the US!

From the Los Angeles Times (thanks to Judy).  Emphasis is mine:

Nearly 507,000 women and girls in the United States could be at risk of female genital excision, including 57,000 in California, a new study has found.

That is more than twice the number that were thought to be at risk in 2000, the last year for which estimates are available.

Analysts at the Population Reference Bureau, a nonprofit research organization in Washington, attributed the preliminary findings released Friday to an increase in immigration [REFUGEES—ed] from countries where the practice is common, including Egypt, Ethiopia and Somalia.

It is unclear how many families continue the practice after moving to the U.S., but community activists say there is anecdotal evidence of girls being sent back to their parents’ home countries for “vacation cutting” and of traditional cutters traveling to the U.S. to circumcise girls in this country.

To estimate the number who may have undergone the procedure or be at risk, the research group used data collected by the Census Bureau for the 2013 American Community Survey to determine the number of women and girls whose families originate in countries where female genital excision is practiced. It then applied the prevalence rates in those countries to the numbers in the U.S.

The methodology is similar to that used by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in a study that found about 168,000 women and girls were at risk of genital excision in the U.S. in 1990, said Mark Mather, the group’s associate vice president for U.S. programs.

[….]

California is the state with the highest at-risk population, followed by New York (48,000) and Minnesota (44,000), the Population Reference Bureau found.  [We know that Minnesota has the highest Somali population in the US—ed]

Ethiopian Community Development Council testifies that ‘unaccompanied minors’ crisis could lead to the demise of refugee resettlement program

Posted by Ann Corcoran on July 13, 2014

The Ethiopian Community Development Council (ECDC) is one of the nine top refugee contractors*** used by the US State Department and Health and Human Service’s Office of Refugee Resettlement to bring third-worlders to your towns and cities.

Tsehaye Teferra President of ECDC. You pay his salary. http://www.ecdcus.org/About_Us/Our_Staff.html

They too testified about Obama’s request for big bucks for the “vulnerable children,” but their testimony clearly shows they are concerned for their own budget.    They don’t appear to have a role in the care of the ‘chiiiilldrunnn’ as do some of their fellow contractors, so they need to hold on to their federal funds for the normal flow of refugees they resettle.

As we have reported previously, the Catholics, the Lutherans, and some of the other contractors stand to see a financial windfall from the border crisis.

Check out ECDC’s testimony to the Senate here.  They see the possibility of the ruin of the normal refugee resettlement program if more taxpayer money is not forthcoming.  They also want to be sure that HHS/ORR doesn’t commingle the millions as they flow in from the US Treasury.

ECDC is very concerned over the current funding crisis at ORR that will cause extremely detrimental consequences for refugees resettled in the United States and the communities that embrace them, and may even lead to the demise of the U.S.Refugee Resettlement Program as we know it.

By the way, ECDC is smaller than many of the other contractors.  Check out their most recent Form 990 by clicking here.   Page 9 is where they hide the government grants (it used to be on page one!).  They had an income of $14,959,325 and $14,609,687 came from you!  Over 99% of their budget comes from US taxpayers!

All of our coverage, going back several years, of the ‘unaccompanied minors’ crisis is archived here.

Georgia: Immigrant fraudsters file phoney tax return in Eric Holder’s name

Posted by Ann Corcoran on March 17, 2014

Diversity is beautiful alert!

They look to be Ethiopians, possibly refugees (or children of refugees) since we resettle so many Ethiopians.  In fact, one of the nine major federal contractors is the Ethiopian Community Development Council.  So, only their resettlement contractor knows for sure if this pair of dim bulbs is here gratis the US taxpayer!

Yafait Tadesse

From the UK Daily Mail  (Hat tip: ‘pungentpeppers’).  The story was from last week while I was away:

The crime of identity theft has become so rampant in the Internet age that not even the top law enforcement official in the land is safe.

Federal prosecutors say 21-year-old Yafait Tadesse of Carrollton, Georgia, has been sentenced for using the identities of more than 10 people — including U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder — in an identity theft and tax fraud scheme.

He will get one year and one day in prison!  How about deportation?

Authorities said Wednesday Tadesse was sentenced to a year and one day in prison in connection to the brazen plot. He was also ordered to pay more than $4,000 to the IRS in restitution.

Eyaso Abebe

According to prosecutors, Tadesse and his co-defendant, 20-year-old Eyaso Abebe, obtained names and Social Security numbers from a website that publishes information belonging to unsuspecting victims.

There is nothing to indicate that Mr Holder, who has served as Attorney General of the United States since 2009, was specifically targeted by the duo because of his position in the Obama administration.

Prosecutors said Tadesse and Abebe filed tax returns claiming that all their victims – including Attorney General Holder – worked at Walmart and had similar incomes.

There is more, read it all.

Come to think of it, Wyoming will probably get a few of these “hardship” cases since Georgia is fed up with them.

Saudis give the heave-ho to tens of thousands of African migrants

Posted by Ann Corcoran on November 30, 2013

This time, they are mostly Ethiopians who were in RICH Saudi Arabia looking for work.

Loading them up! UN doesn’t say boo! about racist Saudis! November 13, 2013 (AFP/File, Fayez Nureldine)

In my alerts this morning I see lots of stories about the UN blasting Bulgaria for not being welcoming toward the Syrians, or the UN telling the Burmese Buddhists to be nice to alien Rohingya, or the UN lecturing the EU to open its borders, but funny how there is complete silence from the UN when it comes to Saudi Arabia!   I think I hear that sound!

Here is the news from SA (Gateway Pundit has it too, hat tip: Ed):

Ethiopia has flown home over 50,000 citizens in Saudi Arabia after a crackdown against illegal immigrants in the oil-rich state, the foreign ministry said Wednesday.

“We projected the initial number to be 10,000 but it is increasing,” foreign ministry spokesman Dina Mufti told AFP, adding that the final total once the mass airlift ends is now expected to be around 80,000.

Ethiopia started repatriating citizens living illegally in Saudi Arabia after a seven-month amnesty period to formalize their status expired on November 4, sparking violent protests between Saudi police and Ethiopian migrants preparing to leave the country.

[….]

Reports of mistreatment of Ethiopians in Saudi Arabia has sparked outrage in Ethiopia.

So much for that Muslim charity the UN was crowing about here in 2009.

Why is it o.k. for Saudi Arabia to tighten its borders, deport illegal migrants and preserve its economy and national character, but not o.k. when the US, Australia or other western countries do it?  I would like George Soros to give us the answer!

Ethiopian/Somali immigrants involved in driver’s license scam; two fatal accidents resulted

Posted by Ann Corcoran on May 30, 2013

Here is the whole story from the Denver Post yesterday (hat tip: Michael).   This is a common practice in the ‘refugee’ community and a topic we have previously mentioned.  Here is one post we wrote about Burmese refugees traveling to Colorado to get a drivers license.

You gotta laugh! No photos of the real perps?

I thought I could quickly get a mugshot of the chief scammer, but no luck.  There are lots of stories on this case going back a couple of years, but no photos I could find quickly.  I have to laugh, food stamp fraud stories are often illustrated with EBT cards and the only illustration I could fine for this story was this one with a driver’s license for a blond woman.

Denver Post (emphasis mine):

Two drivers who took driving tests from the operator of a Denver driving school who faces 20 years in prison for administering examinations under false pretense were later involved in fatal crashes, according to a document in U.S. District Court in Denver.

Both Tidenekiyalesh Ashenhafi W. Hawariyat, an RTD bus driver who ran a red light and struck a vehicle killing two in 2010, and Ali Aden, who ran head on into a car when he was driving the wrong way on Interstate 76 in 2009, were tested by Sikiru Fadeyi.

Fadeyi, who is scheduled to be sentenced on June 11, ran Ola’s Driving School on East Colfax Avenue. The state authorized the school to administer the written and driving-skills tests needed to get a license.  [Gee, maybe the State of Colorado needs to revisit this practice.—ed]

Under questioning, Aden “revealed that he did not read, write or speak any English, it was clear that he would have been unable to pass a written examination that is only offered in English or Spanish,” according to the document.

Hawariyat passed all required examinations with Fadeyi in 2006 and later upgraded to a commercial license.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Christine M. Arguello sentenced two others in the scheme, Djibrill Sana, and Omar Masakira, with three and two years probation respectively. “These are just minions,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Tom Mackey said.

Sana and Masakira acted as “brokers” to introduce people who wanted driver’s licenses to Fadeyi. Many were from Somalia and Ethiopia.

Prosecutors say Fadeyi charged applicants from $100 to $1,000 and then falsified the written and driving examination results.

Fadeyi has agreed to plead guilty to mail fraud and asked for a sentence less than federal guidelines call for, saying his behavior was a “misguided attempt to aid those in the local African community, according a document filed by prosecutors objecting to his motion.

“Defendant Fadeyi was misguided by putting on the streets and highways of Colorado, and other states, drivers who were unqualified. The defendant was misguided by not assisting disadvantaged African immigrants legitimately to pass written and driving tests. Defendant Fadeyi was misguided by putting the safety and well-being of legitimate Colorado and United States citizens and their family members in jeopardy,” according to the document.

One more thing, we learned this in the same AP article where we got the photo:

Federal prosecutor say 1,458 driver’s licenses tied to Fadeyi have been revoked.

Doesn’t it make you wonder how many of those phony driver’s licenses were used for Voter Registration?
