Malaysian government ticked-off at UNHCR for not sharing refugee data, fear ISIS infiltration

Posted by Ann Corcoran on July 31, 2017

Thanks to Joanne for sending this very useful story about how a government of a Muslim country, fearing terrorist infiltration of the refugee flow in to their country, can’t get the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to share data on those the UNHCR has given refugee ID cards to in Malaysia!

Why should this interest us in America?

Because already in this fiscal year (2017) we have admitted refugees of several nationalities to the US from this ‘refugee’ pool maintained by UNHCR in Malaysia!  (See below from Wrapsnet)

Before I even give you the story, keep in mind that as of June 30th, 2017, 2,704 ‘refugees’ have arrived in the US from Malaysia!

From Free Malaysia Today:

Story entitled:

Let us vet your refugee database, govt tells UNHCR

Fear of Islamic State militants and other undesirables entering the country under guise of refugees sees home ministry pressing for more cooperation from UN agency.

PETALING JAYA: With concerns over the movement of Islamic State (IS) militants into Sabah and other entry points in the country, the government has asked the United Nations agency responsible for refugees to share its database of refugees in Malaysia, Channel NewsAsia reported.

Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan spoke of the fear that some IS militants may have slipped into Malaysia and obtained refugee cards issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in order to move freely in the country.

Some refugees being processed to the US from Malaysia are Burmese Rohingya Muslims. Photo: https://asiancorrespondent.com/2016/11/malaysia-pilot-scheme-rohingya-refugees-work/#ihIk2V04rPBQHIM6.97

“The UNHCR has issued cards but the home ministry is not involved in the process of vetting at all. They don’t collect biometric data.

“This does not help our enforcement effort especially on transnational crime, human trafficking and terrorism. So we want to know whether any IS links have penetrated their numbers,” Nur Jazlan was quoted as saying by the Singapore-based news broadcaster.

There are said to be about 150,000 refugees and asylum seekers currently carrying the UNHCR card.

“The refugee numbers reported by the UNHCR keeps increasing. And since the Malaysian public now is very concerned about the presence and high numbers of foreigners, it’s time the government identifies and closes all loopholes where they can enter. And the UNHCR route is one of them,” the deputy minister told CNA.

[….]

The UNHCR website reveals that there are 149,200 refugees and asylum seekers registered with the agency in Malaysia as of June 2017.

About 90% of these refugees are from Myanmar, with the remaining made up of Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, Yemenis, Somalis, Syrians, Iraqis, Afghans and Palestinians.

More here.

Of course I am sure you are saying, well golly, most of these are from Muslim countries and so is Malaysia, so why can’t they stay there? (But that would not help advance the Hijra!).

Here is a screen shot of the data base page showing that in this FY alone we process 2,704 that the UN has chosen for us in Malaysia!

European ship headed to Asia to help rescue Rohingya (why you should care)

Posted by Ann Corcoran on February 27, 2016

If you are saying to yourself, ho hum, this doesn’t affect me, think again!

Rohingya Muslims by the tens of thousands are piling up in countries like Malaysia and Indonesia (both safe Muslim countries!) and we end up bringing thousands to America.

Rohingya at sea

It isn’t just Syrians we should worry about. Rescued Rohingya are being resettled in the US by the thousands. They can’t possibly be screened any better than Syrians!

You don’t hear much about it because the Rohingya are slipped into your towns and cities right along with the Burmese Christians and other ethnic minorities and all are labelled simply Burmese.  Last fall we learned that 13,000 Burmese Muslims were already in the US.

This is the rescue ship story which is really a ho hum story, but I’m mentioning it since we haven’t talked much about Rohingya lately, although we have an entire category, here (185 previous posts), devoted to the subject.

From the International Business Times:

A rescue ship credited with saving thousands of migrants stranded in the Mediterranean Sea is to embark on a new mission in south-east Asia. The MY Phoenix, owned by charity Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS), has been used to rescue almost 13,000 people making the perilous journey from north Africa and the Middle East to Europe.

But now its crew is sailing the 40-foot vessel to the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea, where it will spend four weeks helping rescue Rohingya refugees. Last year tens of thousands of migrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh attempted dangerous sea crossings to reach Malaysia and Indonesia.

By all means, save them at sea, but resettle them in Muslim countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia!

About the photo:  It is here in a story from May 2015.   The story tells us about the latest round of violence between the Rohingya and the Buddhist Burmese and leaves you with this line (below) that gives the impression that all the deaths and displacement were on the Rohingya side of the ledger.  It just isn’t true!

We followed the conflict as it boiled up in 2012 and it started when Rohingya men raped and murdered a Buddhist girl!  But, in the retelling, the pro-Muslim propagandists never tell you that!  Buddhists were among the dead and homeless!

Clashes in 2012 between the state’s Buddhist community and Rohingya Muslims, a long-oppressed linguistic and ethnic minority in this majority Buddhist country, left hundreds dead and more than 140,000 people homeless.

Visit our ‘Rohingya Reports’ category.  In 2013 the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (testimony here) asked the US State Department to bring in more Rohingya (it is only ‘fair,’ they imply, since we have resettled so many Christians!).  Doesn’t it make enormous sense to bring in the centuries-old warring factions?  Not!

Malaysia: Obama (today) meets with Rohingya (Burmese) Muslims on way to US

Posted by Ann Corcoran on November 21, 2015

This story is a Drudge headline this morning:  Obama defiant: vows more refugees.

***Update*** November 22:  Almost 15,000 Burmese Muslim came in as refugees in last ten years, here.

He is in Malaysia, a safe Muslim country which is sending Rohingya Muslims (who arrive there illegally) to America!  So while we have anxiety about Syrian Muslims coming to the US, remember the US resettlement program has been bringing in Muslims from Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Burma (and other countries) for years.

Esar Met evil face

Meet Esar Met a Burmese Muslim sentenced to life in prison in Utah in 2014 when he was found guilty of brutally raping and murdering a little Christian Burmese girl in his Salt Lake City apartment complex. The medical examiner testified that she died in excruciating pain. Shame on the mainstream media for never reporting on this case outside of Utah. https://refugeeresettlementwatch.wordpress.com/2014/05/15/utah-burmese-muslim-refugee-sentenced-in-brutal-rapemurder-of-little-girl/

The Rohingya are especially fundamentalist Muslims we have been following for 8 years.  We have an extensive archive (Rohingya Reports) with 182 previous posts just on the situation in Burma and surrounding countries with the Rohingya.  (Want to write a book on Rohingya?  Your research is right here on these pages!)

In 2013 we reported that Anastasia Brown, on behalf to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, lobbied the US State Department to allow Rohingya Muslims to enter the US with a P-2 Designation meaning that they need not prove individually that they are persecuted, but that they would be admitted to the US as a class.

In other words, all they need do is say:  I am Rohingya and they are eligible for resettlement in your towns and cities.

Thousands are already here.   In our earliest years of reporting on Rohingya, the US State Department was not admitting them for fear that terrorists were among them.   All that has changed.

See the AP story at Myway:

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Pushing back against efforts to bar Syrian refugees from resettling in the U.S., President Barack Obama vowed Saturday that his country will be a welcoming place for millions fleeing violence around the world “as long as I’m president.”

Obama commented Saturday at a learning center in the Malaysian capital that serves the poor, including some refugees. He met with boys and girls wearing crisp white and black uniforms and neckties as they sat at tables and worked on painting and puzzle projects.

[….]

Most of the children the president met with are Rohingya, a Muslim ethnic group. Tens of thousands of Rohingya have fled Myanmar to escape persecution by the country’s Buddhist majority, with many ending up in Malaysia, where Obama was attending a regional economic summit.

[….]

The refugees Obama met with have all been cleared to come to the U.S. and have been assigned to specific cities, the White House said.

Earlier this year we reported that 12,615 Burmese Muslims had been admitted to the US in the last ten year.  I’ll have to do an update of those numbers when I get a minute (Ha!).  BTW, the majority population of Burma (aka Myanmar) is Buddhist and they want the country to remain majority Buddhist.  Even the famed human rights activist from Burma has angered the humanitarian industrial complex by not speaking out on behalf of rights for Rohingya.

See why Obama is angry (in my opinion). His job was to get them in here as part of the UN agenda, and he has hit a roadblock!—YOU!

Addendum:  How could I forget.  Hillary has been touting her ‘success’ in Burma while Secretary of State.  Then why are we taking thousands of Burmese Muslims to the US if she has done such a good job?  You must see this post!  Podesta Group sent to Burma to shore up her image!

Rohingya Muslims on the way to the US, many others already here

Posted by Ann Corcoran on September 26, 2015

I thought I was done today.  I was just going to tackle my bulging e-mail in box when I came across an e-mail from reader Judith alerting me to this news from the Bangkok Post yesterday.

Rohingya boat

Rohingya are coming to the US. This group of young MEN was apprehended by the Malaysian government, a Muslim government, that doesn’t want the Rohingya. So we are taking them! http://news.yahoo.com/malaysian-pm-orders-rescue-migrant-boats-041729887.html

24 Rohingya (Burmese) Muslims are on the way to the US, but the article tells us that since right after 911 we have admitted 13,000 Burmese Muslims (how many are Rohingya?).

Ahhhh!

While we focus on the fact that Syrians can’t be screened, frankly neither can Muslims who get on boats in Southeast Asia (claiming to have been kidnapped) be properly screened!

New readers of RRW don’t know that we have an entire category on the very ‘observant’ followers of Islam that are known as the Rohingya.

We have 180 posts in our ‘Rohingya Reports’ category extending all the way back to 2007.  Back in 2007 and early 2008 there was no way the US State Dept. was going to admit Rohingya Muslims, but clearly all that has changed

Here is the story at the Bangkok Post (which won’t let me snip much, so please go read it yourself):

At 46 years old, Basamai, an ethnic Rohingya Muslim man, will for the first time obtain identity documents that will allow him to resettle in the United States next week, along with 23 other trafficking victims.

The 24 to be resettled follow four who left Thailand earlier this month, in a humanitarian programme that has resettled 13,000 Muslims from Myanmar since 2002, according to the US Department of State Refugee Processing Center.

They are not saying if they are coming to your town!

Following their arrival in the US — the exact location remains unknown — the Rohingya group will undergo Cultural Orientation Training before they can be resettled, said a source from the Ministry of…

Cultural Orientation Training, here? in the US?  That is a new one on me.

They were screened by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and the star of this story hopes to bring his wife and 8 daughters to America real soon!

Oh brother, now the New York Times is on the Rohingya bandwagon

Posted by Ann Corcoran on May 26, 2015

Here we go again, the media drumbeat to bring more refugees to America is sounding!

The Leftwing media is made up of a bunch of sheep as they follow one another with the same ‘news’ stories designed to advance a political agenda—in this case they are promoting the resettlement of Rohingya Muslims to America.

When the NYT gets on the story, you know the propaganda is reaching critical mass!

Rohingya boat people arrive in Indonesia. Indonesia is a safe Muslim country and if they are legitimate asylum seekers they should be asking for asylum there. When we bring them to America we create a ‘pull factor’ and more will attempt the voyage.

Why is it a concern of the US that too many Muslims from Muslim Bangladesh are flowing to the Muslim countries of Malaysia and Indonesia?  Why can’t they just stay there, in the Muslim world, with their co-religionists?   Is it America’s job to take every poor Muslim (or every poor person for that matter) to your towns?

And, btw, just as we are preoccupied with the lobbying push to resettle 65,000 Syrians (mostly Muslims), I guess the UN and the US State Department are going to start slipping in larger numbers of Rohingya behind our backs.

Here is the NYT beating the drum with its sob story:

There are at least 200,000 Rohingya migrants from Myanmar [aka Burma—ed] already in Bangladesh, and only 32,600 of them have been granted formal protection as refugees fleeing persecution, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Far fewer, perhaps only several hundred, have been resettled from refugee camps in Bangladesh over the past decade and allowed to begin new lives in other countries.

In Malaysia, those determined to be refugees and therefore eligible for resettlement, a process that could take years, would be joining more than 45,000 Rohingya who are already classified as refugees and are waiting to be taken in by another country. They receive no government aid while they wait, nor can they legally take jobs to support themselves.

About 1,000 Rohingya refugees were resettled in the United States in the last year.

I told you here in 2013 that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops asked the US State Department for more Rohingya to resettle.   My research indicates that we have admitted over 12,000 “Burmese Muslims” in the last 10 years—surely most are Rohingya.

The NYT continues:

The Rohingya, a stateless Muslim people who have long faced discrimination and have been deprived of basic rights in Myanmar, are likely to meet the criteria for refugee status under international law, namely having “a well-founded fear” of persecution for reasons of race, religion or nationality in their home country.

Such an effort, however, has yet to materialize.

According to the agreement hammered out last week by the foreign ministers of Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, none of those countries agreed to host any refugees permanently.

Australia’s prime minister, Tony Abbott, said Thursday that his country would not take any refugees from the current exodus.

Read more here.

Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia don’t want them—-why do we?

See our Rohingya Reports category with its 178 previous posts and its 178 reasons why this is a problematic resettlement.

Rohingya Muslims are definitely being brought to American towns

Posted by Ann Corcoran on May 24, 2015

We’ve suspected that the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the US State Department are working to bring Rohingya boat people, who arrive illegally in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand to America, but yesterday we learned that 1,000 of them have come recently.

rohingya-migrants-may-16

A Rohingya-packed boat adrift in Thai waters last week. The breakdown of borders is happening all over the world.

This is what we reported earlier in the week:

How many Burmese refugees are we taking?

The mostly Christian Burmese are one of the largest (if not the largest) ethnic group of refugees we have resettled since 2005 (I checked the data from January 2005 until May 1, 2015).

This is what I learned:  We resettled 140,812 Burmese refugees since 2005.

This surprised me:  In that number were 12,615 Burmese Muslims!  The word Rohingya is not used, but most certainly the Rohingya represent a large portion (if not all) of that number.

According to activists, the UN is not moving the Burmese Muslims out to third countries fast enough!  And, there are 45,000 of them registered with the UN and expecting to be moved to the West.

Here is what we just learned, from the Borneo Post:

ALOR SETAR: A Rohingya welfare body in Malaysia is pressuring the United Nations (UN) to expedite re-settlement of Rohingya refugees to third countries.

Rohingya Society in Malaysia (RSM) chairman Dr Abdul Hamid Musa Ali said as of today, about 2,000 of the tens of thousands of Rohingya refugees residing in the country had been successfully placed in several third countries.

He said the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) should play a role in safeguarding the welfare of Rohingya refugees in Malaysia.

“It is very disappointing as many questions are being raised on how just only 2,000 Rohingya refugees have been successfully relocated to third countries, from about 45,000 refugees registered with the UNHCR.

“This does not include the 60,000 to 70,000 Rohingya immigrants in Malaysia who are still not registered with the UN agency for refugees until now,” he told Bernama here today.

Abdul Hami, who is a Rohingya refugee and UNHCR card holder, said until today, just over 1,000 Rohingya refugees were re-settled in the United States, and the rest in several European countries.

There will be a regional summit on May 29th in Bangkok, Thailand in order to try to figure out what to do for the thousands of boat people arriving from Burma (Myanmar) and Bangladesh.  Be sure to watch the film clip here and see that one refugee says—THEY ARE LOOKING FOR A MUSLIM COUNTRY IN WHICH TO LIVE.  That is great!  There are many to choose from (including Indonesia, Malaysia and heh! how about Saudi Arabia?).

Get used to that ‘R’ word—Rohingya—listen to pronunciation here.

It appears that the PR push is on and that as we express our concerns about Syrian refugees arriving in the US in large numbers, the Rohingya are being quietly resettled here along with the thousands of Iraqi and Somali Muslims each year.

See our Rohingya Reports category here (it includes 177 posts and extends back almost 8 years).  Here is one post from 2008 where we said that as early as 2002, Time Magazine linked Rohingya refugees to Islamic terrorist groups.  You might be interested to see this post as well.  In 2012 a reader alerted us to the fact that the US State Department had removed from a terror watch list a group linked to Rohingya.

The next time you hear one of your friends or some dumb politician say that ‘LEGAL immigration is good,’ remember that this is legal!

What is going on with the UNHCR in Malaysia, and why are we taking all these “refugees?”

Posted by Ann Corcoran on December 29, 2014

I wish I knew who we were processing into America from Malaysia.  As I told readers here recently we have already “welcomed” to America, 1,504 “refugees” from the safe Muslim country in only the first two months of the fiscal year.

Why is it in our national interest to relieve Malaysia of some of its asylum seekers/illegal migrants?

This is what I said on December 20th:

If you go to this fiscal year’s (FY2015) State Department statistics you can see that we took a huge number of “refugees” from Malaysia in the first two months of this year (October and November)—1,504.  Again, Malaysia is a safe Muslim country so who are we taking?

I bet we took thousands from Malaysia in FY2014, but those stats are no longer available to the general public.

Who are those “refugees?” Are they persecuted Malaysian Christians? Are they illegal aliens (Muslims) who got to Malaysia hoping to make it to Australia?  Is this like our Malta situation where we are taking another country’s illegal aliens?

The State Department does not make public the nationalities of those coming to America from Malaysia!  We can only guess that they are Burmese Muslims, or Somalis, or more Middle Eastern Muslims.  Again, persecuted minorities (like the Christians) won’t be seeking protection in Malaysia.  And, if they are why is the State Department keeping it secret?

If migrants have a valid UNHCR ID card, they can stay. Imagine what the fake ones must cost on the black market. http://durianasean.com/if-refugees-have-valid-unhcr-card-they-can-remain-here-says-shahidan/

Two articles about problems the UNHCR is having in Malaysia caught my eye yesterday.  The first one was about how 365 migrants were caught carrying FAKE UNHCR identification cards.  Those “Myanmar nationals” mentioned are likely mostly Muslims, possibly Rohingya.

From the Sun Daily via UNHCR News on December 23rd:

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 365 illegal immigrants, mostly Myanmars, were caught by the authorities, possesing fake United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) cards to stay and work in the country.

They were among 416 illegals nabbed in the six-hour integrated operation called ‘Op Bersih’ led by the Kuala Lumpur police contingent and other security agencies, including the Immigration Department, Registration Department, UNHCR, Rela, and the Civil Defence Department at the Selayang Wholesale Market, here, that began at midnight.

Kuala Lumpur police CID deputy chief, ACP Khairi Ahrasa in a statement said the operation to reduce the number of illegals in the country managed to detain 351 Myanmar nationals, 20 Bangladeshis, 30 Indonesians, seven Indian nationals and six other nationals for illegal entry and using fake UNHCR cards.

And the funny part (not really funny) is that just a week before, the UNHCR was blasting authorities in Malaysia for harassing those poor “refugees” carrying UNHCR ID cards.  Here also at the Sun Daily:

PETALING JAYA: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is concerned over the arrests of UNHCR card holders in the country for various Immigration-related offences.

UNHCR External Relations officer Yante Ismail said these card holders are at risk of being arrested by the authorities as currently there are no domestic laws that can make a distinction between refugees and undocumented migrants.

She said they will intervene with the authorities whenever the registered refugees are arrested for various Immigration-related offences to advocate their release.

According to UNHCR statistics, there are over 150,000 refugees and asylum-seekers in the country from countries such as Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Somalia and Pakistan.

In an immediate response, an Immigration Department spokesman did not deny that Malaysia lacks a legislative and administrative framework to address refugee matters, adding that all of the refugees are allowed to stay in the country only with the government’s compassion.

However, he refuted the allegation of UNHCR card holders being arrested saying that it is always their standard operating procedure not to arrest registered refugees.

“Even if we (mistakenly) detain the refugees, we will check with the UNHCR to find out whether the card is valid or not, if it is valid, then we let them go,” the spokesman told theSun.

Can you just imagine the amount of corruption going on in a place like Malaysia with 150,000 mostly Muslim “refugees” and “asylum-seekers” hanging around waiting for the big prize—a ticket to Australia or America!

Australian gunman (refugee) got to Australia through Malaysia; US taking hundreds from Malaysia

Posted by Ann Corcoran on December 20, 2014

Malaysia is a safe Muslim country.  At the time the Iranian “refugee” gunman got into Australia as an asylum seeker, the Australian government was pretty much “welcoming” all.  Why couldn’t the Iranian phony cleric simply ask for asylum in Malaysia? Why did Australia give him asylum in 2001?  I’ll bet those are questions the Abbott government is researching (or should be) at this very moment.

Today things are different in Australia as it is one of the few countries in the world at least trying to control its borders, if it is not already too late.

Just a short hop to Australia…

From the Malay Mail Online (hat tip: Robin):

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 — Iranian gunman Man Haron Monis who kept Sydney gripped in a deadly hostage crisis had fled to Malaysia after committing “violent” crimes in Iran before seeking asylum in Australia, according to the Middle Eastern nation’s police.

Monis, who was shot dead by Australian police after holding 17 people hostage in a Sydney cafe, had absconded to Malaysia in 1996 during a time when he was wanted for those and fraud-related crimes.

Aside from his alleged crimes in Iran, Monis was also facing trial in Australia for a number of offences, including being accessory to the murder of his wife as well as over 40 sexual assault charges involving seven alleged victims.

Man Haron Monis was known to authorities in Sydney

It is unclear when the Iranian left Malaysia for Australia, where he was granted refugee status in 2001.

Iranian police chief General Ismail Ahmadi Moghaddam also revealed that Australia had declined Iran’s request to extradite Monis to stand trial for his crimes.

Moghaddam also alleged that Monis had sought asylum by masquerading as a Muslim cleric.

“It lasted four years to collect evidence on Manteqi’s [Monis’] identification documents and we reported this to the Australian police but since Australia has no extradition treaty with Iran, they didn’t extradite him,” Moghaddam was quoted as saying in a report by the Mehr News Agency.

Monis’ refugee status also precluded Australia from repatriating him to Iran.

Malaysia is a popular transit point for Iranians seeking to escape the Middle Eastern regime, owing to shared religious and cultural links between the two nations.

There is more, read it all.

So why is the US taking refugees from Malaysia and who are they?  Surely no Christians went there for protection!

If you go to this fiscal year’s (FY2015) State Department statistics you can see that we took a huge number of “refugees” from Malaysia in the first two months of this year (October and November)—1,504.  Again, Malaysia is a safe Muslim country so who are we taking?
